EV Charger Installation in Lincoln: Costs & What to Expect

Return to blog

If you’re thinking about EV charger installation in Lincoln, the good news is that most homes in the city can have a smart charger fitted in a single day. The details that change the price and the timescale are things like where you park, how far the charger is from your fuse board and whether your home is listed or in a conservation area. This guide covers what to expect, what it costs and how to get it done properly.

Why charge at home in Lincoln?

Public rapid chargers are handy on a long run down the A46 or A15, but charging on them every week costs far more than charging at home. A home charger lets you plug in overnight on a cheap off-peak tariff and wake up to a full battery. It’s also faster and safer than a three-pin plug and an extension lead, and a smart charger can be set to charge only during the cheapest hours.

EV charger installation in Lincoln: what does it cost?

Our prices include the charger, fitting, testing and certification, with a cable run of up to 10 metres included. All prices include VAT:

  • Ohme ePod (no tethered cable): £1,099 fitted
  • Ohme Home Pro (5m or 8m cable): £1,149 fitted
  • Hypervolt Home 3 Pro (5m or 10m cable): £1,199 fitted

Longer cable runs add £125 for 10–20 metres and £250 for 20–30 metres. Runs over 30 metres start from £350. A separate EV supply board, an earth rod or trenching across a drive or garden can also be needed on some properties. We confirm all of this at a free survey, and you can find out more on our EV charger installation page.

If your fuse board, meter tails or main fuse need upgrading, we’ll check this at the survey and confirm any cost before work starts. Main fuse upgrades are usually carried out free of charge by your network operator.

Lincoln homes: what we look at on the survey

Lincoln has a real mix of housing, and each type brings its own questions.

  • Terraces in the West End, Monks Road and Uphill: many have no off-street parking. A home charger needs to sit where you can park on your own land, as you shouldn’t trail a cable across a public pavement. If you don’t have a drive, we’ll tell you honestly whether a home charger is practical.
  • Newer estates in North Hykeham, Birchwood and the edge of the city: these usually have a drive close to the house and a modern fuse board, which keeps the job simple. Some newer homes already have a charger or a spare circuit ready for one.
  • Older semis and detached houses: older fuse boards sometimes need upgrading before a charger can be added safely. We’ll explain why if that’s the case.
  • Listed homes and conservation areas: if your home is listed or in a conservation area, such as around the Cathedral and Bailgate, check with City of Lincoln Council before fitting a charger on a wall that faces the road. We can suggest a less visible spot.

What happens on the day

Most home charger installations take half a day to a day. We’ll turn the power off for a short time while we connect the new circuit. We then fit the charger, test it, connect it to your Wi-Fi and the app, and show you how to set your charging times. You’ll get an electrical installation certificate, and we notify the network operator for you.

Grants for renters and flat owners

If you rent your home or own a flat, the government’s EV chargepoint grant for renters and flat owners can cover 75% of the cost of buying and installing a charger, up to £500. Homeowners living in houses aren’t eligible for this grant. Ask us at your survey and we’ll talk you through whether you qualify.

Pair your charger with solar or a battery

If you’re also thinking about solar panels or a home battery, it’s worth planning them together. Smart chargers like the Ohme and Hypervolt can work with solar and cheap overnight tariffs. Solar panels and home batteries currently have 0% VAT until 31 March 2027.
